Anantnag, Apr 12 (KNO): The residents of Shalnard in Kokernag belt of Anantnag on Monday said that the sub-centre in the area lacks all basic facilities and pitched for its up-gradation to the public health centre (PHC).
Locals said that a sub- centre for the village was sanctioned in the year 1986 and since then it is operating from a residential house without any facilities.
Locals said that residents of Shalnard and its adjacent areas are forced to visit SDH Kokernag or DH Anantnag for minor issues which consumes both time and money as there are no facilities available at the centre.
"Nothing has changed in the centre since the last four decades in terms of facilities while locals continue to suffer," Nadeem Ahmad a local resident, said.
He said that locals have even shown land to higher-ups for construction of PHC in the village but as of now, nothing has been done.
Locals said that there is only one ANM posted along with one class fourth employee and apart from vaccinating children every Wednesday, no treatment is done in the centre.
They added that the elderly people, children and pregnant ladies are suffering badly in the absence of health care facilities.
"We have taken this issue to higher-ups several times but to no avail," locals said.
CMO Anantnag Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that a team would visit the place to inspect whether it is feasible for a PHC or not.
He said that health care facilities are being provided to the inhabitants of the area—(KNO)
